The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent make known that caused by the wars against the Ottomans, they have borrowed 300 ducats of Rhodes from Luis Bertram merchant from Barcelona resident on Rhodes, paid to the Conservator General Fr Giacomo de Acciaolis; the loan has to be paid back in August 1450.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent make known that they have bought 69 piece of cloth from Perpignan worth 1110 ducats from Guillem Barres merchant from Catalonia; this sum has to be paid until 30 September, 1450; otherwise the treasury may pay interest rates.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent make known that they have bought 177 pecias of cloth from Mallorca worth 2832 ducats (16 ducats per pecia) from Francesco de Bruwyon merchant from Mallorca; they also bought 2 pannos black cloth worth 90 ducats and two big black pieces of cloth (cordellatos) worth 66 ducats 6 giliatos (33 ducats 3 giliatos per piece); the sum of 2988 ducats 6 giliatos has to be paid within six months until 26 September, 1450.

[In 1482 the preceptory of Walsum appears to be vacant by the death of brother Theodericus de Uuolfft, NLM Arch. 388, libri bullarum 1481-1482, fol.126v. The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent make known that they have sold to the Catalan merchant Andrea Vitali pepper worth 725 duc. and that they already have received the payment from him; the pepper shall be handed over to him or his proctor within ten months, i.e. until 28 February 1451; otherwise they have to pay back for the pepper at a higher rate.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent to the receiver in the Greater Provence, Fr Pierre Raffin, and the proctor of the treasury in Avignon, Oddinetto Lamellin: order to pay Battista de Spinulis or Niccolo Italiano or their proctors 1 September, 1451, the sum of 4125 –cus for the rate of 22 and a half gr. which they have promised to pay for the supplies for the castle at S Peter (Bodrum). - Additional remarks concerning the payments.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic to papas Calixtos: grants him the administration of the monastery and church S Nicolai de insula, since his predecessor, papas Nichandros Caloyeri, has been deposed because of bad administration; will be introduced into office by the Castellan of Ferradone.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent make known that they have bought from Benedetto de Ferrariis cloth worth 108 duc., pepper and ginger worth 354 duc. 19 asp., other cloth worth 545 duc. 28 asp., and other goods for 206 duc. 20 asp. 2 d.; also that they have borrowed from him 450 duc., which has to be accounted as 507 duc. 24 asp. including interest rates; this amounts together to 1722 duc. 27 asp. 6 d. which have to to be paid within seven months, i.e. until 18 December, 1450.

Note on the licence for Michaele de Mugnaz to go from Rhodes to Rome to get indulgences from the jubilee and to return to Rhodes. Note of the vice-chancellor Helisseo de la Manna concerning the revocation of this licence by the Master.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent make known that they have made account with Fr Juliano de Beninis, Prior of Pisa and lieutenant in the priories Urbis, of Pisa, Lombardy, and Venice concerning the responsions and other payment until 24 June, 1449, or 31 May, 1450, respectively, and that they owe him 101 duc. 6 asp. according to the registers of the Treasury that will be deducted from future payments.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic to master Asdrea Morbassia and his wife Challio tu Chiriatu from the casale Trianda: confirms their acquisition of two modiata arable lands from Stammata tis Venelinas, with annual rent of 5 asp. to be paid to the Master.

Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent make known that the last chapter general has discussed the problems of injustice and inequality concerning the payment of the responsions and other duties of the Orders houses and therefore ordained to make a general visitation; they appoint Fr John Langstrother preceptor of Balsall and Grafton and receiver in the priory of England as visitor and proctor for the priories Pisa, Lombardy and Venice.

Note on deliberations in the council (Master Fr Jean de Lastic, Fr Raymond Richart, Prior of Saint-Gilles, the conventual prior, the marshal, the turcopolier, the lieutenant of the grand preceptor, and others) in which the Draper Fr Pere de Linyan reports that the Castellan of Amposta, Fr Pere Ramon Zacosta, has ordered that the preceptory of Caspe should pay a certain amount of money to the treasury; since he holds Caspe since 28 years, the Draper protests against this order.

Entry of the answer of the Castellan of Amposta Fr Pere Ramon Zacosta concerning the protest of the Draper Fr Pere de Linyan because of the additional payments from Caspe; the Castellan refers to the agreement in the litigation between the Draper and Fr Ezbert de Villamari in which the Draper even appealed to the Queen of Aragon to the detriment of the Order; the agreement included the resignation of Caspe to the Castellan and an exchange of financial rights between the Draper and Fr Ezbert de Villamari.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent make known that they have sold ten quintalia pepper to the Catalan merchant Francino Ferrario for 500 duc. to be delivered at the latest after one year and 15 days, i.e. until 25 June 1451; otherwise they have to pay him back 620 duc.; regulation for the protection of the merchant: interest rates when the money is not paid in time, properties of the Order set in pawn for the sum due.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent make known that they have authorized Fr Raimond Richard, Prior of S Gilles, and Fr Julino de Beninis, Prior of Pisa, envoys to the Roman Curia and other places, that they can borrow money from merchants and other eccclesiastical or secular persons under convenient conditions, in the name of the Order, to finance their mission.

Note on the confirmation of the licence for Fr Pierre Raffin and Fr Odinet Lamellin to arrend the annate and incomes from mortuaries and vacancies in their preceptories for the best offer, to brethren or to secular persons; this licence was first granted 1449.

The Chancellor Fr Melchiore Bandini and the secretary of the Master and scribe at the curia of the castellany of Rhodes, Helisseo de la Manna, come to an agreement about Helisseo's tasks as vice-chancellor during Fr. Bandinis absence; this agreement is confirmed by the Master.

Fr Philibert de Laigne, prior of Aquitaine, inserts a bull of the Master Fr Jean de Lastic concerning an assembly of the "French" tongue under the hospitaller Fr. Guy de Melay in which Fr. Maurice Bertin, preceptor Sancte Geminiane from the priory of Aquitaine is appointed to two further preceptories, de Eglizes and de Espaulx, in the same priory.

Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent insert and confirm a decision of the chapter general in Rome 25 April, 1446 concerning the determination of the ancianitas and the collation of offices in the Castellania of Amposta; the ancianitas is determined in an assembly of the brethren of the Castellania in the convent under direction of the draper, now Fr Pere de Linyan, and the office is collated by the Castellan of Amposta, now Fr Pere Ramon Zacosta, or their lieutenants.

Following the supplication of Fr Juan de Castronovo, Master Fr Jean de Lastic confirms that the extracts from the manual of the Roman chapter general of 1446 concerning the grant of the preceptory of Orte for lifetime to the Castellan of Amposta, Fr Pere Ramon Zacosta are done word by word; Fr Pere continues to hold the office according to the statute that the offices granted ex gratia magistrali need not to be resigned even after being promoted to prior or Castellan of Amposta.

Instructions for Fr Roger Juth Preceptor of Mechelen and Fr Jean Perrin Preceptor of Hainault as visitors and reformators for the North German preceptories: they shall first visit the Duke of Cleve who has visited Rhodes and promised help to restore obedience in Northern Germany.

Master and Council renew the contract with the Venetian merchants Giovanni and Geronimo Martini concerning the sale of sugar from Cyprus for another five years until 31 December, 1459. The advanced loan of 2500 Ducats according the old contract is raised to 3000 Ducats which will be deduced from the incomes from the sugar trade. - Note concerning a decision which links the sale of sugar from Kolossi with the responsions of the preceptor of Cyprus (or his lessee). After the end of the actual lease of the preceptory the new preceptor or lessee shall sell the sugar from Kolossi to the treasury (for 25¼ Ducats per quintale) which then will sell the sugar to the brothers Giovanni and Geronimo Martini according to the conditions of the above-inserted contract.

Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent make known that the litigations of Fr Hugh Middleton Turcopolier and Prior of Ireland against Fr Thomas fitzGerot are null and void and based on unjust accusations; the honor of Fr Thomas is restituted.

Discussion of the Master and Council concerning the problem of the 'election' of Fr Thomas fitzGerot as Prior of Ireland by the brethren of the Irish priory. Though Henry VI and the brethren of the English priory have sent letters in favour of the 'election' they reject this decision as being contrary to the statutes. But after some discussion fitzGerot is again 'elected'.

Master and Convent to Fr Thomas fitzGerot: because of his merits for the Order he has been elected Prior of Ireland [the discussions of 9-10 September, 1450 are not mentioned], following the death of the last legitimate prior, the Turcopolier Fr Hugh Middleton; reservation of the collation of one or two preceptories according to the statutes established unter Master Fr Berengar at the chapter general of Avignon 1366.

Because of the financial problems of the Order, Pope Nicolaus V orders all officials of the Hospitallers to account for their offices within 60 days after the receipt of the letter and to pay their responsions and other dues to certain brothers; otherwise he threatens them with excommunication and deposition.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent confirm Fr Lorenz von Hertenfelder, lieutenant of the prior of Bohemia in the bailiwick of Austria, for lifetime as preceptor of Fürstenfelde in the priory of Bohemia; following the support and recommendation of Fr Michaele de Castellacio, visitor and reformer of the priories Germany, Bohemia, and Hungary.

Entry on the litigation between the priories of Castille, Portugal, and Navarra on one side and the Castellany of Amposta and the Priorat Catalonia on the other side concerning the procuration for the Spanish lingua in the Convent; the first group of brethren is in favour of yearly change of office between the priories as practized since 1446, the second group demands common elections for the office. An esguardium fratrum decides for the first solution. The quarrel is renewed 13 April, 1453.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent make known that they owe the Genuese merchant Geronimo de Charmedinis 1628 duc. 4 gil 20 karatos for ashes bought from Geronimo by the Catalan merchant Nicolo Correger according to the account made in the treasury; to be paid to him or to Odoardo de Carmedinis or their proctors within six months, i.e. until 5 June, 1451.

The Master Fr Jean de Lastic and the Convent to Fr John Langstrother preceptor and receiver in the priory of England: inform him that Fr John Lambeton has rendered account in front of the administrators of the Treasury about his preceptory Beverley and his expenditures as lieutenant turcopolier and for the English brethren in the Convent; from this it follows that they owe him 107 fl. 11 asp. 14 d. Rhodesian currency; Fr Langstrother shall pay him from the first incomes from mortuaria and vancantiae in England without using the responsions.
