TEMPLAR SOURCES 1205

*TS1205.00.00 - 1205, s.l. - Godefridus, viscount of Châteaudun, in an open letter: makes known that there had been a quarrel between him and the Templars. The Templars claimed to have, for them and their subjects, at Materaz the use of wood both for their buildings and for heating, pasture for their cattle and feed for their pigs. With consent of his wife Adelicia and advice of wise men the conflict has been solved like this: The viscount concedes that the Templars have their rights, allows them to get their wood in Materaz, have pasture for the pigs, but the cutting of wood is restricted. The Templars' subjects are allowed to to take dry wood for their heating and have pasture for their cattle and pigs. These are permant donations for the salvation of his soul, of that of his wife, heirs and ancestors. Original parchment with seal in green wax. *TS1205.02.00 - February, 1205, s.l. - Phillip II King of France to his bailliffs and provosts in Normandy: orders to protect the Templars, their men, and their property and to leave them in peaceful possession as in the time of Henry II and Richard I of England, before the duchy came into royal hands.

*TS1205.06.00 - June 1205, s.l. - Godefridus, viscount of Châteaudun, in an open letter: makes known that he has reached an agreement with the Templars concerning their village Temple close to Mondoubleau. At first, the viscount did not allow the Templars to bring their subjects to different places for obligatory services or to have their own oven in their house except with his special permission. But now he has changed his mind - together with his wife Adelicia - and allows the free employment of the subjects and the Templars' oven under certain conditions, the oven of the Templars even to be used by the inhabitants of the village in the case their own oven is damaged. The Templars may sell their products in their barn, receive food for their animals and wood for their oven. The village Temple shall remain under the same conditions as before the start of the quarrels. Original parchment with seal in green wax. (Archives nationales, S, 5001 B, no. 5 / Chartes Vendomoises, No. CLXI, pp. 195-96)
