29 April, 1480
Edward IV recommends to all archbishops and others in Ireland of Fr. John Kendall, Turcopolier of Rhodes and lieutenant-general of the grand master of the order of St John of Jerusalem in Italy, England, Flanders and Ireland and his commissaries or surrogates, as the Grand Turk has subdued all Greece and divers adjacent provinces, cities and islands and now intends to subdue the city of Rhodes and the islands pertaining to it and the castle of Seynt Piere in Turkey, which for a long time has been guarded at the cost of the master and convent of the order, and the said John has obtained from pope Sixtus certain indulgences for all who shall help in the defence of the Christian faith and the maintenance of the said order and the island of Rhodes and others pertaining to it and the said castle, and the pope has committed to him the execution of the same in Ireland. 30 April, 1480
Edward IV grants protection to Fr. Pierre dAubusson, Grand Master of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, and the convent of Rhodes and their men and possessions. The King also grants that they may display the king's arms and ensigns, as a sign of the affection which the king bears towards the order and because their island of Rhodes and other lands confront the unspeakable (nefandissimi) Turks and are in peril unless they are supported by the favour of Catholic princes. Further grants that if in the war they are waging with the Turks they shall be despoiled by any pirates on the Christian side and shall not be awarded damages the shall have countermarques and reprisals (Calendar of Patent Rolls, Edward IV, Edward V, Richard III, p. 193)

30 April, 1480
Edward IV notifies all Catholic kings and princes and others, that as the king understands from Fr. John Kendale, Turcopolier in the order of the knights of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and lieutenant-general in Italy, England, Flanders under Fr. Pierre dAubusson, Grand Master of the order, and the convent of Rhodes and their proctors in the court of Rome, that the Turk is hastening to subdue the island of Rhodes , he has taken under protection the said master and convent and their men and possessions and has granted that they may bear his arms and ensigns and promised that if they suffer any injury he will cause reparation to be made so far as is in his power, and request that they shall be favoured accordingly. Edward IV grants in frank almoin, with the assent of the great council, to the prior and brethren of the Hospital or priory of St John of Jerusalem in England, in consideration of their expenses and unwearying labours in fighting the enemies of the Cross, of the advowson of the parish church of Boston, co. Lincoln, and licence for them to appropriate the church in mortmain saving a suitable portion for the endowment of a vicarage and provided that a competent sum of money be distributed among the poor parishoners of the church. Licence for Thomas, the abbot, and the convent of the monastery of St. Mary by the walls of the city of York to grant in mortmain the hospital of St John de Novo Loco Sancti Botulphiin the town of Boston, co. Lincoln, and the advowson and custody of the hospital and all manors, lands, rents, reversions, services, knights' fees, advowsons, courts, leets, liberties, possessions and other emoluments belonging to it to John Watson, prior of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in England, and for the latter to unite the same to the said Hospital of St John of Jerusalem. Sixtus IV to the preceptor and the brethren of the Hospital at Cologne: they should send the moneys assembled in their house and their dues to the treasury.

11 September, 1480
Sixtus IV to bishop of Cefalu: informs him about the new indulgences for the Hospital; should wait before starting to preach the indulgence because the preachers will get new instructions.

9 November, 1480
Wiiliam Bannaster late of Hadnall, co. Salop, esquire alias gentilman, has not appeared to answer Fr. Willam Turvey, the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England, touching a debt of 18 l. (Calendar of Patent Rolls, Edward IV, Edward V, Richard III, p. 188)

Master and complete council decide that the next general chapter will be held on 1 September, 1481.

Sixtus IV to the Master [Pierre d'Aubusson]: asks for the provision of his nephew, the Prior of Pisa, with the preceptory S. Jacobi in Campo Corbolino in Firenze.

Sixtus IV to the receptors of the Order in Italy: they should hold the collected monies at his disposal or to that of the Master.

The election of the grand bailiff is postponed.
