TS1182.01.05 - 5 January, 1182, Rome, Lateran. - Lucius III takes master Arnaldus and the Templars ( magistro et fratribus etc.) as Alexander [III] under papal protection, confirms their properties and the order's rule, confirms the right that the master shall be elected by the brethren, forbids changes in their custos and any oath of fidelity to secular or ecclesiastical persons, forbids to leave the order, frees the order from the tenth from newly cultivated lands if used by themselves, grants the possession of their tenth and the right to except new members, forbids to demand fees for consecrations, grants that they can make new settlements on depopulated lands and the building of churches, protects their alms collectors, grants the right for funerals and to celebrate masses in areas under interdict once a year, forbids the bishops to pose interdict or excommunication on their churches, allows masses under general interdict, and allows to administer the sacraments. TS1182.03.00 - March, 1182, s.l. - Odo Bishop Belitiensis mediates between the Templars and Anterius, Bishop of Valenia, concerning their quarrel on a hospital, an oven and two gardens. The hospital was donated to the Templars by the Bishop, and they shall keep it, as long as they care for the poor. The Bishop will receive the tenth from the oven, while the Templars and the Bishop shall have one of the gardens each. (Röhricht, 614a / RRR, 1098)

TS1182.03.18 - 18 March, [1182], --. - Pope Lucius III to archbishop of [Godinus] of Braga and bishop [Fernandus] of Braga: mandates to investigate and settle the conflict between the bishop of Coimbra and the Templars (Colimbriensiem episcopum et milites Templi concerning the churches of Pombal, Redinha and Ega, any appellation excluded. TS1182.03.23 - 23 March, 1182, Ancier. - Empress Beatrix renounces the village of Barges in favour of the Templars ( fratres Templi Iherosolimitani) who have acquired the village with the consent of the abbot and the chapter of the monastery Faverney. As guardian of the monastery, Beatrix wanted to reclaim the village, but now she donates it as alms to the Templars in the hands of the Templar brother Imbert de Ualcin. TS1182.05.10 - 10 May, [1182-1183], Velletri. - Pope Lucius III to bishop [Bernard] of Parma: has been informed about the conflict between the canons at Verona and the Templars. The order has gone to court because of a church which the canons had erected in the Templars' parish with episcopal permit. When the judge authorized by Alexander [III], bishop [John] of Vicenza, decided in favour of the canons, the Templars procured from the pope a commissoria to bishop [Gerard] of Padua without mentioning the decision of the bishop of Vicenza. The pope orders that the bishop of Parma has to find out if the decision of the bishop excluded an appellation and if the bishop had a respective mandate. If the judgement is lawful, the bishop shall execute the decision; if there has been no judgement up to now, the bishop shall hear the parties and settle the conflict. - Inc. TS1182.06.27 - 27 June, [1182], Velletri. - Pope Lucius III to all archbishops, bishops, abbots, priors, archdeacons, deacons, priests and prelates: orders to act against those who in disregard of the Templars' privileges granting them liberation from tenths for their lands cultivated in domain still demand tenths, based on a wrong interpretation of the documents suggesting that de laboribus means de novalibus, though the text refers to all lands directly cultivated by the Templars, not only to newly-cultivated lands. Secular perpetrators should be punished by excommunication, clerics by suspension from their offices. The use of force shall be punished by excommunication which only shall be lifted when compensation has been given and the perpetators have come to the pope with letters from their diocesan. - Inc.
