John of Rosenberg (Rozenberk) at Strakonice (Strakonicz), master of the Order of St. John in Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia, Poland and the Austrian lands, John of Lomnice (Lomnicze), prior, and the convent in Strakonice give to their forester John Vacovský a manor in Bezděkov in front of the Strakonice castle between the manors of John Polák and Matthew Šilhavý with an orchard, two so-called morgen of hereditary agricultural land (dwiema gitry diediny) with a meadow under the new pond, by right of emphyteusis (prawo kauffrechtnie). John and his heirs would be obliged to reap grain ('50 threescores of grain') for two years and brew beer at Strakonice Castle for the third year. They further testify that John Vacovský built a new house in the manor and sold a part of the manor and half an orchard for 6 1/2 threescores to John Kloboučník (Hatter) and his heirs, to whom the obligation to reap the grain passed, John Vacovský is to continue to provide a batch of beer. In the event of a resale, Kloboučník is to offer his part of the manor first to Vacovský. Gabriel de Pomerolx to the Genoese citizen Vincenzo Justiniani: Due to his merits, he and his [seven] sons are granted the citizenship of Rhodes town and are appointed familiars of the Order. Therefore, they can are allowed to use the papal and princely privileges of the Hospitallers for their trade. They are also freed from the dues on Rhodes. Gabriel [de Pomerolx] to the harbour authorities of Apulia: makes known that four ships from Catalonia, Genoa, Naples, and Rhodes are bringing large quantities of grain (140, 385, 111, and 85 cartloads [currus]) to the town of Rhodes which had been bought by the receiver of the Priories of Barletta and Capua, fr. Carolo Pandone, for the supplies of Convent and town. The captains of the four ships are Miquel Inclusa from Catalonia, Martino Botta from Genua, Sebastiano de Surrenta from Naples, und Alonso Pardal from Rhodos. Therefore, fr. Remprecht de Eberstorff will act as his proctor. He will return to the Priory at his own expense but then will be recompensated by the incomes from the preceptory. - [no date]. Pierre de Cluys, or his lieutenant: is ordered to prepare for the chapter general which is scheduled to start on the first sunday of September 1523. It may be possible to assemble the chapter earlier if this would be necessary due to the developments. The young Sultan [Soliman I] would be in high spirit because of his victory over the Hungarian king [at Belgrade] and would prepare more and more ships for war while keeping his army in arms (Thurcorum tyrannus juvenis et supra modo elatus victoria ab eodem contra serenissimum dominum Hungariae regem [parta] non cessat navigia omnis generis bello apta partim restaurare et re[fortiare], partim nova in magno numero construere, terrestres exercitus veteres in armis manutenere et bavos describere […]). Therefore, at the chapter general measures for reinforcements should be decided to protect Christianity and to secure the success of the Order. After having received the letter, the priors should convoke provincial chapters and inform the brethren about the situation so that these could furnish themselves with weapons and would be ready to come to the Convent if cited to Rhodes. Philippe Villiers de l’Isle-Adam, after having taken over the administration of the treasury and the goods of the Order, declares that when he was in France, he has received financial support from the receivers of the six French priories by a sum of 40,000 écus, part of which should now be used for the daily expenditure of the Convent, as much as necessary, and the other part should be kept for future needs.
