HOSPITALLER SOURCES 1465

The Council decides on the partition of posts at the walls of the town of Rhodes, assigning certain parts to each of the eight tongues.

20 June, 1465. Rhodes.
Fr. Pere Ramon Zacosta, master, confirms the gift of 10,000 new gold French shield from Philip Duke of Burgundy through his treasurer Jacques de Brigiles for the building of a tower on Rhodes on the location of the former church of St Nicolas, which will serve as the most important defensive stronghold for the harbour and the town of Rhodes. He declares he will have this tower erected within two years, its bulwark decorated with a marble sculpture signifying the coat of arms of the duke and the upper parts with those of his provinces.
