Inspeximus and confirmation in favor of Robert de Hales, the prior, and the brethren of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England, of charter of confirmation, dated Westminster, 1 July, 34 Edward III, being an exemplification of a charter dated York, 10 February, 2 Edward III, itself an exemplification of a charter dated York, 30 June, 1 Edward III [Charter Roll, 1 Edward III, No. 21], inspecting and confirming a charter dated Chertsey, 22 September, 2 Edward II [Charter Roll, 2 Edward II, No, 45], inspecting and confirming a charter dated Westminster, 8 June, 8 Edward I [Charter Roll, 8 Edward I, Nos. 43 and 44]. Robert de Hales, the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England, has letters nominating brothers William Marny and Henry Ferant, his general attorneys for three years. The following are admitted his general attorneys in like manner: Hildebrant Inge and Thomas Knight - Wiiliam Hulles and Peter Ruelyng - John Ichyngton and Hugh de Stokton - John Dalton and John Bukstan - John Dayvill and John Maydenstan - Brian Gray and Richard Brawe - Robert Normanton and John Danvers - John Dyngelee, brethren of the Hospital - William Barker, chaplain. Licence for the appropriation in mortmain by Robert Hales, the prior and brethren of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England of the church of Melchebourn, of the Hospital's patronage and of the yearly value of 8 marks, he and his brethren having agreed to grant the prior and convent of the Charterhouse, London, four acres of land adjoining that house belonging to the house of Clerkenwell, which belongs to the Hospital, for enclosing and making gardens for the cells of the prior and his friars. Appointment of Thomas Veel and John Longfield to receive seisin in the king's name (1) of four acres of land in the parish of St. Sepulchre without the bar, Westsmethfeld, co. Middlesex, which the king, William, bishop of London, and Richard de Warmyngton, clerk, have lately acquired in fee from the prior and brethren of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England [...]. [King Richard II] to the prior and brethren of St. John of Jerusalem in England: Request to admit John Assheton palfreyman the king's serjeant, and minister to him such maintenance in their manorof Hampton co. Middlesex as John Baker deceased had at the late king's command; as the late king granted him that maintenance for life, and died before he could recover the same. By p.s. [King Richard II] to Thomas de Ingelby, Robert de Fulthorp, Hugh de Westwestwyk, Thomas de Sandford and John Dent, justices appointed to take an assize of novel disseisin arraigned by Robert Hales prior of St. John of Jerusalem in England against Robert Stanhope mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne, Lawrence de Acton, John Howeden, William Bisshopdale and Robert de Raynton bailiffs and the commonalty of that town concerning tenements in Fennum. Writ of supersedens until the king be otherwise advised, as he is informed that the premises are parcel of the said town, which is held of the king at fee farm by the defendants. By C.
